NEW TIPS 07/2004:

Here is an improved preparation process for "Erazed". More precisely, this is an improved way to apply the water on the decal before transferring it onto the card. This new, improved way will prevent the decal from sticking permanently to the card, which would pretty much ruin the effect, wouldn't it ? This problem could occur when the decal wasn't prepared properly. This new method is fail-proof and ensures that the decal remains sticky enough to stick to the card during the presentation of the routine, but not "too sticky" so that it would become too hard to remove it from the card at the end of the effect. Here it goes…

- Put the decal in a glass of water during 60 seconds.

- Take it out from the water (delicately), then contact both sides of the decal with absorbent paper (this will remove the excess of water on both sides of the decal)

- Then proceed as explained in the original instructions, i.e. "slide" the decal onto the surface of the card, in the correct position(s).

This new way of preparing the decal allows to dissolve the "glue" (or sticky material) on the blue paper almost completely – there will remain just enough sticky material to make the decal stick to the card, but not enough to make it stick permanently. You can prepare the card up to 24h in advance.(if you think it’s still too sticky; you can try with 30 seconds more in the water)

CAUTION : This new preparation makes the decal less sticky than usual, so once it is transferred to the card, do not touch its surface during the performance or the decal could come off prematurely.

Additional Tips 12/2003

- Only use new, fresh cards. The decals have a tendency to stick permanently on older or worn cards and you want to avoid that! Also, it seems that some blank cards ("Bicycle" cards) work better than others for the trick. Even if you use the same "Bicycle" brand, the quality of blank cards vary from one pack to another. If necessary, experiment with different packs and finishes or textures until you find the cards that work best for you.

- As soon as you finish transferring the decal, don’t push on the decal or it will stick too firmly to the card, witch you want to avoid. You want to make the removal as smooth and easy as possible.

- Use very sticky tape – the stickiest brand you can find. If necessary, experiment with various brands of tape until you find the best type. The stickier the tape, the easier and faster to remove the pips from the cards.

- Press hard on the tape when you are attaching the two cards together – in other words, make sure you push hard on the sticky part of the tape that is covering the pips. This will make the removal process easier and faster.

- If you wish to prepare a few cards in advance (several hours before performance time), it is advised to put a little fanning powder (NOT baby/talc powder, but fanning powder used for stage manipulation cards) onto the blank faces of the cards before installing the decals in place. This will prevent the decals from permanently sticking to the cards and will make the removal process easier, even if the cards have been prepared a long time in advance. Depending on the finish/texture of the blank cards you are using (see paragraph above), you can prepare the card up to 24hrs in advance.
